*Childsmile Lanarkshire

Childsmile is a national programme designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland and reduce inequalities both in dental health and access to dental services. It is funded by the Scottish Government and has three main elements:
  • Core Programme – based around supplying home care dental packs for children in nurseries and primary 1 children in schools and the delivery of supervised toothbrushing in all nurseries and targeted primary schools
  • Childsmile Practice – Dental Health Support workers link with Public Health Nurses and General Dental Practices to encourage registration of children with a dentist from an early age for the delivery of preventive care
  • Childsmile School and Nursery – Extended Duty Dental Nurses supported by Dental Health Support workers offer twice yearly fluoride varnish applications to the teeth of children in nurseries and primary schools across Lanarkshire
